OSCE Chairman and Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said in Belgrade, Feb. 7, that without the participation of Serbian authorities and a dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, there can be no solution for Kosovo and Metohija.
"My opinion is that without Serbia and Montenegro and without a dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, no good solutions can be achieved. I wish to say that the OSCE will be very persistant when it comes to this," said Rupel after his meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic.
The OSCE chairman stated that negotiations on the future status of Kosovo were "still far away" and added that it was necessary to achieve the respect of standards in the province, the key aspect of which is the protection of the rights of minorities and "respect for culture and cultural co-existence." A lot remains to be done in this respect, said Rupel.
He also stated that the future of the western Balkans lay in European integration.
Rupel met with Serbian Premier Vojislav Kostunica. After the meeting, he said that without full compliance with standards, it was not possible to achieve progress in Kosovo and emphasized that it was, above all, necessary to ensure respect for human rights.
Slovenia fully supports Serbia and Montenegro on their way towards integration in the European Union, added Rupel.
