The independence of Kosovo and Metohija is absolutely unacceptable because it will result in destabilisation of the region, Serbian president Boris Tadic said following his meeting with US admiral and NATO South Wing commander Michael Mullen.
Tadic stressed that the long-term stance of the new Kosovo army towards Serbia-Montenegro would be a negative one, which would threaten regional security. The independence of Kosovo will result in new refugee inflows in Serbia and will can threaten the democratic process in the country, the Serbian president went on to say.
In the meantime the representatives of the biggest Serbian parties strongly criticised the latest report of NGO International Crisis Group, which proposed independence of Kosovo and fast solution of the issue. Serbian politicians questioned the impartially of the report stressing that it was one-sided and reflected mainly the view of Kosovo Albanians.
Representative of junior coalition partner G 17 Plus called for international conference on the issue. Foreign minister Vuk Draskovic also refuted the proposal for Kosovo independence saying in Brussels that this would be a major blow for Serbian-Albanian relations and that such a solution was legally impossible as it was violating the UN Charter.
