UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has given strong assurances that everything possible will be done to protect the rights of the Serb population in Kosovo, Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic said yesterday.
Draskovic was speaking in New York after a meeting with Annan which, he said, was devoted completely to Kosovo and the position of Serbs in the province.
“The secretary-general gave me the strongest assurances that the UN would do everything to protect to the fullest extent all Serb rights, religious national and cultural, to safeguard their lives, ensure safety of movement and the decentralisation of power,” said the foreign minister.
Draskovic told journalists that, rather than being a focus of discord between Serbs and ethnic Albanians, it should be a bridge to reconciliation and collaboration,” he added.
