REGION: Swiss Refuse to Extradite Albanian from Serbia and Montenegro
Switzerland has rejected a request from Serbia-Montenegro for the extradition of an Albanian alleged to have armed and financed extremist organisations in southern Serbia, sources close to Serbian security forces said today.

A Swiss court upheld an appeal against the extradition by Ridvan Rashiti, who claimed that he was sought for political reasons. However the court denied his application to be released on bail, radio B92 reported.

In its ruling, the court said that more investigation of the case was needed and said it would be handed over to the Department of Justice and Police.

Rashiti was arrested in January on an Interpol warrant, issued at the request of Serbia-Montenegro on suspicion that he was a member of a terrorist organisation.
